This is a Waldo Homes Association organized event but Cub Scouts are invited to help if they can. Webelos and older can handle loppers with supervision. Younger Cubs may be best at making brush piles after the honeysuckle canes have been cut. Parent supervision required. This event can count as a service project or outdoor activity.

 What we'll be doing:

The Waldo Homes Association is clearing out non-native honeysuckle bushes from the woods and trails of South Oak Park.  For this to work, we need people to show up, ready to work.  We have a couple of guys with chainsaws who will work ahead of the rest of the volunteers to do the heavy cutting.  We’ll also use hand saws and loppers to get the smaller stuff.  Then we’ll be pulling out the brush and limbs to stack in a pile that the Parks Department will haul away the following week.

This year the homes association  is having a fund raising event at the park at noon.  We will have home made chilli and other dishes to serve.  We are suggesting donations to our neighborhood banners fund in the amount of $5.00.  Our banners have aged and we are planning to replace them.

Clearing out the trails that are already there will give us even more places to walk our pets and enjoy being outdoors!  It also will give you a warm, fuzzy feeling of accomplishment knowing that you have done something that helps our environment!!  We hope to see you there.
